Ulysses on Windows

There is no Ulysses for Windows. Ulysses is a Mac, iPad and iPhone app, and no version runs on Windows or Linux — not a beta, not a web version, not through an emulator worth using. If you write on a PC, the question is not “how do I install Ulysses” but “what replaces it”.

What people actually miss from Ulysses

  • A library of sheets rather than one document at a time.
  • Goals and writing statistics on the current piece.
  • Clean Markdown editing without a split preview.
  • Publishing straight to WordPress or Medium.
  • Sync between devices without thinking about it.

No single Windows app replaces all five. The list below says which ones come closest to each.

Quorly — the zero-install option

It runs in the browser, so it works on a Windows machine where you cannot install software at all, and there is a desktop build (.exe) if you want a separate window. Rich text rather than Markdown source, focus mode, and exports to Markdown, PDF and .quorly. No account.

What it does not do: no sheet library with goals, no publishing integration, and sync is opt-in — Local Sync to a folder, or Pro Cloud Sync to your own Google Drive. If a managed library is the thing you need, Obsidian or Scrivener is a better fit.

Moving a Ulysses project across

Ulysses exports Markdown and plain text; both import into Quorly. Export each sheet from Ulysses, import the .md files here, and the headings, lists and emphasis come with them. Do it sheet by sheet — the library is the part Ulysses keeps, and it does not travel.
