A writing app for Linux

Two ways to run it, neither of which asks for a package manager. Download one AppImage and run it, or open the editor in Chrome or Chromium and install it as a web app. Both are the same editor, both work offline, and neither needs an account.

The AppImage

  1. Download quorly.AppImage from the download page.
  2. Make it executable: chmod +x quorly.AppImage.
  3. Run it: ./quorly.AppImage, or double-click it in your file manager.

An AppImage is a single file that carries its own runtime — no repository, no dependencies to resolve, no root. It is built on Ubuntu 22.04 and runs on any 64-bit distribution with a recent glibc; if your distro is older, the web app is the safer route.

The web app

Open quorly.dev/app in Chrome or Chromium and use the install option in the address bar. You get a window without browser chrome and an entry in your application launcher. Firefox does not install web apps natively, but the editor works in a normal tab there too; offline caching still applies after the first load.

What works offline

Once the page has loaded, writing and formatting work without a connection, and so does exporting to PDF, Markdown, plain text and .quorly. Two things need the network: the first load, and picking up a new version. The desktop app behaves the same way, because it loads the same app.

Where your drafts live

In the app's own storage or in the browser profile — separate stores, so a draft written in one does not appear in the other. Export a .quorly package to move between them, use Local Sync to write one file per document into a folder you choose, or Pro Cloud Sync to keep a copy in your own Google Drive. Nothing is uploaded on the free plan.

Why not a native Linux package?

Because an AppImage is the honest distribution for a desktop shell around a web app: one file, no repo to maintain, no stale package in a distro archive. If you would rather not keep a binary on disk at all, the web app is the same editor with the same local storage model.
