What it renders
Why a preview at all
Markdown is designed to be readable as plain text, but the things that go wrong are structural: a table with the wrong number of pipes, a list that needs a blank line before it, a code fence that never closes. Those are much easier to see rendered than counted.
It is also a way to check what a CMS will do with the file. Paste the draft, look at the tables and the nesting, then fix the source before it goes into the build.
What it does not do
- No footnotes. The renderer follows the common GitHub-flavoured syntax; footnotes are not part of it.
- No custom CSS or themes. The preview uses the site's typography so it reads like a document, not like a debug pane.
- No file upload from disk. Paste the text. Reading a file would work, but it is one more permission for a task that takes a copy and a paste.
- Not an editor. If you want to write rich text and export Markdown — rather than type Markdown — that is what Quorly's editor does.
Privacy
The renderer is marked, sanitised with DOMPurify, both self-hosted on this origin. There is no request to a conversion API: the Markdown is parsed by JavaScript in this tab and written into the preview element. The only stored copy is one localStorage key, so a reload does not lose what you pasted; Clear removes it.
Drafts that should not be on a stranger's server — a client document, an unpublished chapter — are exactly the ones people paste into random converter sites. This one does not need the network at all after the page loads.
